[Book Review] Kingdom of Ash

WARNING: This is the 7th and last book of the series. I really recommend reading the first seven books but if you have no plans to do so, then by all means venture forth.

Where to even begin. I mean, the story has at least 15 different character views within just the first 10 chapters. And there is war raging in all four corners of the world (but only one continent on the map). Our main girl, Aelin Ashryver Whitethorn Galthynius, is having a rough time but somehow is excepted to win this entire war. With the help of quite a few other helpful characters to have on her side. The last two filler books that we read are finally coming into play and this is the book to end them all. Let’s begin.

Oh No’s

The first two hundred pages are so boring. I’m sorry, but I thought the purpose of Tower of Dawn and Empire of Storms were to set up this book, why are we still wasting time setting up? The first pages are also attempting to sum up seven books into a few chapters so you can understand what a waste of time that was. But, once that action hits, you just can’t put this book down.

A review or two ago I said you have to read The Assassins Blade before you read this book. Yeah, I didn’t. I wanted to save that as a nice reading for later on when I’m missing this series. That was a huge mistake. You really should read that book first so please. Don’t make the same mistakes I did.

One complaint that I’ve seen this book losing stars for is there weren’t enough deaths. And I mean the millions of soldiers that died were enough but almost none of our main characters died. I was ready to cry my heart out and for my soul to be wrenched out but it never came. I mean it was nice to see a happy ending for once and gods damned Aelin deserves that but it was something missing from the novel.

All of my babies are fighting and they are all finally meeting each other and I freaking love that plot device! The surprise meetings and revelations are what I live for in a book, and this one has hundreds.

This book is the one I have always wanted. I fell in love with this series, these characters. And I am finally able to see an actual ending to a series and a wonderful finish to the best series I have ever read. I wholly recommend this series to anyone and everyone. Don’t buy it on Kindle like I did because once you get to the fourth book and realize you can’t easily flip through the others to reread them, it’s too late.

The book is split into two parts. SJM decided that if this turns into a series of movies, then she would be the one to chose where they split the last book in half. Also the amount of action and stress between the two are not equal but it’s OK.

Finally,

I cried like a baby. Thank god no one really died so you won’t have too much heart wrenching. But we will pause for a moment to thank those who did. Those who fought for this battle. It was such a wonderful novel. To have seen how much Aelin, Chaol, and Dorian has grown from that first novel. I will never love a series as much as this one.
