Hey everyone! So I recently was able to update my Instagram account to a business Account. I am not a business, I am a book blogger. But that doesn’t mean I can’t take advantage of Instagram’s new way to advertise.
I took the time (and money) to experience this new way to gain likes and followers on Instagram so you don’t have to! With Instagram’s new algorithm, I’m sure all of you are experiencing the extreme decrease in likes. This is the only way they are allowing us to increase them back to the way they were. With money.
In the picture above, you will see a summary of what using the promotion with two different photos granted me. The clicks show how many people actually clicked the Learn More action on my photo. You can also see how much money I spent between the two photos as well.
To begin, I started with my lovely photo I took of the book Pride by Ibi Zoboi. Before I started this promotion, I had 17 likes. I then went on to select how many days and how many viewers I wanted to aim for. Both can be changed but the days are $5 each with the views being around $2 for every increase.
I decide to do 2 days and a viewership of 800-2,100. This came out to $6. Over the next two days, Instagram places your post as one of the ads that you see while scrolling through your feed. This post ended up being viewed by 1721 people with 377 total likes, 14 archives, and 5 website visits.
For my second test, I tried on one of the best photos I’ve ever taken. And although this one ended up getting more likes and views, I did not get the website clicks that I wanted. I ended up with a whopping 503 likes, 5 archives, 2,363 people reached, and 4 website visits.
My main goal for this experiment was to see if this would be a good use for other websites that don’t include purchases. Of course, it is not. But it is good for gaining attention on your Instagram photos. Do note that I only gained two followers between these two promotions. This only gains you likes.
Overall: This is only worth it if you want the likes but not if you are trying to promote a blog or a bookstagram.
Has anyone else tried this new promotional tactic from Instagram? Let me know what you think.

I tried a paid promotion on facebook once. Gained maybe 3 followers or so and the accounts seemed rather sketchy. They weren’t engaging followers either.
I still feel growing “naturally” is the best way to go, but if you have the money for it, you can do this every now and then to get a tiny boost.
Also, totally gonna follow you on instagram now. Can’t believe I haven’t thought about that until now.

I agree with the “naturally” growing. I wasnt expecting to gain anything in respects to following but I wanted to see if I would be able to increase the traffic on my blog. NOPE.
Oh and yes, definitely follow me! Purplemanatees as well on there lol

This is so cool! I’m going to forward this to my friend because I know he would be able to use this for his business. Did it cost money to get the business account?
