[Book Review] Stalking Jack the Ripper

I scored this novel during the #bookhaul sale at Barnes and Noble. I bought this baby for five bucks plus free shipping since I’m a member.

This novel is about our girl Audrey Rose trying to solve a murder mystery but being stopped every step of the way because of her womanhood. She never lets this stop her in her conquest to study as a mortician. Because of her connections, she becomes entwined in the murders made by known other than Jack the Ripper.

Oh No’s

I wanted to see more of her in the all boy’s school. I love gender-bender books. They’re honestly my guilty pleasure genre. When the second chapter began with this I got so hyped only to be let down a chapter later. Perhaps another day I will find a book with that plot.

Yay’s

I loved the period writing. This piece of historical fiction stayed true to its era with the use of both the descriptions and the dialogue.

“Divorce yourself from your emotions.”

The authors ability to consistently make me feel like I took a step back in time. Every time I opened this book, it was like I tine traveler and was learning about Jack the Ripper along with everyone else.

The historical accuracy of the book was amazing. This is one of those books where you learn about history without even realizing it. At the end of the novel, the author included more information about the Jack the Ripper murders and you realize you now know his other aliases. The author even took the time to explain the events and points where she embezzled versus the actual events.

Finally,

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It was a very quick read but I took my time savoring it since I enjoyed it so much. This is definitely one mystery novel I highly suggest picking up. This is also a series but it doesn’t seem like the books are connected in any way. The next book is Hunting Prince Dracula and I definitely will be purchasing this in the future.

My similar recommendation for this book would be any book written by Donna Jo Napoli. She is a great historical fiction writer.
