A perfect summer read.
This book follows four girls, Britta, Meredith, Kate, and Spider, and their journey of self discovery as they all find themselves taking a break from life in a cabin with no call service. Taking this break from their normal lives, the four girls learn more about not just themselves but each other. This is a story about friendship, finding yourself, and a tiny bit of romance. Each chapter changes with the character and each girl has their ow story to tell.
Oh No’s
The stories were definitely obvious and predictable but I am okay with this. Although, because there was almost nothing surprising, I became quite bored reading this novel. It is a very thick read so do be prepared for the long haul while reading this.
Two of the characters should have fallen in love. A female/female romance between two main characters is exactly what I am here for. Even though there is a f/f relationship on the side, it wasn’t a main plot line that I wish the author would have followed more. It was there right in our face! I will not reveal the characters names but let me know if you felt their connection, too.
Yay’s
Following the unique story-lines of four different people. We follow each girls perspective and Britta was honestly my favorite. This girl tried her dang hardest to just have everyone get along and to not let anyone be mad at her. She was just such a humble character and I lived for her chapters.
Finally,
This coming of age tale is great for any girl who feels out of place and is looking for an escape from life. What better place than a cabin in the woods?
My similar recommendation for this novel would be Raymie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo.
