Title: A Curse So Dark And Lonely
Author: Brigid Kemmerer
Pages: 477
Genre: Young Adult,
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling and the best retelling I’ve ever read.
Harper is from the current world where her brother is being blackmailed and she is forced to keep lookout. But when a man seems to be kidnapping a defenseless girl, Harper steps in and is somehow taken to a parallel universe. One that is still in medieval times. With its prince bound by a horrible curse. What is Harper to do now that she is stuck in this world and with this prince.
Oh No’s
I did not like the end. I kinda wish that this had just been a standalone but I don’t mind it continuing. I just don’t think I would be willing to continue as I really loved how this book ended.
Yay’s
I loved our amazing girl, Harper. Her constant fierceness, albeit a little annoying at first, really turned out to be a great thing. Her cerebral palsy really gave representation to those who also hold a disability and was quite enjoyable to see.
This is honestly the best Beauty and the Beast retelling that I have read so far. This is even better then ACOTAR which I didn’t even know was a retelling the first time that I read it. I felt this really stayed true to the theme but threw on a little Throne of glass flair in there especially in the ending. There is going to be a second book but this honestly works as a standalone as well.
Finally,
This book was quite entertaining and I did give it five stars for a reason. If amazing retellings are your trope please look no further.
My similar recommendation for this novel would be A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.

This is my favorite book!! I agree, I prefer it to be stand-alone novel than series. And omg…I envy your merch so bad. 😭

I might only because I really enjoy the writing and the characters but I didn’t personally like where the story is heading (love triangle)
