[October TBR #4]
Title: The Bone Houses
Author: Emily Lloyd Jones
Pages: 338
Genre: Mystery, Spooky
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
To begin, a bone house is someone who was once dead and has now come back to life. But, why are these people coming back to life and only coming from The Forest. This is where our young gravedigger comes in. Ryn is the one who knows the forest best and when bone houses become something not just talked about in myths, then its up to her to figure out why.
Oh No’s
This book felt very plain to me. This was extremely enjoyable but there was just something off for me. I can’t quite put my finger on it but this was a great novel regardless of its basic/plain feeling.
Yay’s
The bones houses were my favorite part about this book. They are pretty much just better zombies. I loved the story behind them and the way this author describes them making them sound ancient and old.
The main character Ryn really kept me going throughout this. She was such a strong female character and she was so bad-ass. The way she held herself and used an ax to its full potential really impressed me.
Finally,
This was an action packed adventure that I really did enjoy. It really came around full circle and made for a great standalone novel. It was also one of my October spooky-themed reads.
My similar recommendation for this novel would be Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young.
Favorite Quote
“The bone house reached into its own chest. It pried its ribs apart, rummaging about for the bolt.”
