Oh No’s
This book took a lot of getting into. The world really dumps you into it with created word usage right off the bat. I admit I had to put it down quite a bit to try and clear my head. Once I came to terms with the fact that I wouldn’t understand what any of these words mean, it got easier.
Slight spoiler but not really since it happens like three chapters in! After her friends was killed she barely even cared. Zafira just moved on as if nothing even happened she even stayed with the people who killed him and barely even seem to mind. It was weird. It was touched on later on at least but still weird.
Yay’s
Nasir is my more favored character whereas Zafira really fell into the background for me. I found her quite boring and really wanted to here for of Nasir’s story.
This is really funny cause I read another review which said the exact opposite. They felt Nasir was quite plain and their favorite was Zafira. This just goes to show you should really take every review with a grain of salt. See what the majority says and find things you like about it.
Finally,
I’m not sure if I will be continuing with this series. I didn’t enjoy this all that much but the characters did grow on me and that end was just wow. So I am on the edge with this novel but please feel free to take a look at other reviews before you decide to purchase this lovely novel.
My similar recommendation for this novel would be Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.

“‘I don’t know’, he said, tightening his grip around her finger. ‘I just think that once you’re bound to another, you change. That for the happiness of the one you love, and for your own, you change without knowing it.'”
