[Book Review] Winterwood

We begin with our young Nora Walker, the youngest in the Walker line. Related to distant witches our main character lives alone during this harsh winter right across the lake from a school boys. When one goes missing and one presumed dead, Nora finds that she may be the only one who is able to solve this mystery.

Oh No’s

I felt the plot really dragged in the middle. I mean it wasn’t too bad and the only other thing was the fact that this child lived on her own. AND she just kept inviting other children to her house!

Yay’s

This book was amazingly well written. It flowed really well. I loved the little snippets out of the Family Spellbook between each chapter. It really helped to bring out the witchy vibe of the book. I was really into witchcraft earlier this year so it really resonated with me.

Finally,

I honestly loved this book. I’m a sucker for standalone novels! This makes me want to read her other novel, The Wicked Deep. Just to get more of her writing.

My similar recommendation for this novel would be The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones.
