[Book Review] The Cabin

This novel is an interesting mystery about a pair of unlikely friends who begin to take the detective work into their own hands. Mackenzie and Blake find themselves as the prime suspects when their friends are found dead after a weekend away in a cabin. Together the two must look into every one who went to the party, including the ones who are already dead. Trust no one.

Oh No’s

Weed is not a gateway drug. This constant stigma throughout the book really irked me. Opioid addiction, pills subscribed by your doctor, are what lead to harsher drugs. This prejudice toward marijuana is what is causing countless people to not be able to get the help they need from a harmless drug. While alcohol remains unchecked with thousands of people being affected by the acts of drunk drivers. I cannot stand to see a book support a stigma that those who actually use weed have been trying to break. Look at what legalization has done for the economy of Colorado? That is all I have to say on this matter.

This book was mostly about the mystery and solving the murders than the actual ‘cabin.’ only like 5% of the book actually happens at the cabin the rest is afterwards. Even the end just dragged on with who actually had done it with the end not giving you any satisfaction at all.

Loved the teamwork and dynamic between our main duo. Their detective work was great and very entertaining. Of course the teetering on the edge of friendship of love was to be expected so do not be surprised by what you see or don’t see.

Finally,

This was an interesting mystery read. I loved the detective work between the main characters and even though the story dragged on, I did power on through to get to that ending.

My similar recommendation for this novel would be Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Manisculo.
