Title: A Torch Against the Night (#2)
Author: Sabaa Tahir
Pages: 452
Genre: Action & Adventure, Fantasy
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
This is the second book in the series. Check out my review for An Ember in the Ashes if you are interested in the story beforehand.
We continue on the journey of Laia and Elias as they make their way toward Kauf– where Darin is being held. Of course, it will not be easy but that is the ultimate goal. Throughout this time, we get to peak in on Helene’s point of view as the current Blood Shrike of the new emperor. What will become of the fates of these three?
Oh No’s
I always hated Keenen’s character and how he became such a major character in the book. He was the worst for me and you all know how I hate love triangles. Well, here is another one. Luckily, Helene wasn’t all jealous this book so we were actually able to enjoy her character as well.
All of these creatures that didn’t exist before suddenly do and are everywhere now? The efrits and Nightbringer and Jinn all existed before apparently but now they are just everywhere like what? The end of the book does sort of explain this but to me it bothered me throughout the novel. I do love how they aided the story line though.
Yay’s
I love how fast paced this novel is and how each chapter works toward a goal. The novel sections all have a theme and I love how much detail is going into this series. I’m in this for the long haul now and must wait to buy the next book. Rest assured, I will definitely continue with this 5 out of 5 star rating book.
THE POISON. Such a great add in. I love that suspense of the seizures followed by the realization. I loved it as a plot device. I am afraid I can’t reveal too much since I don’t want to include too many spoilers but this book was amazing and this was one of the reasons why.
Finally,
I really enjoyed this novel and I cannot wait to read the next installment. I was totally engrossed almost 100% of the time. The details in the characters and world-building are very detailed so it does take me a while to read this book but all in all it is extremely enjoyable.
A great recommendation for this series would be the Throne of Glass series. The buildup is very similar and I love it.
